Garam Masala Indian Buffet

Garam Masala Indian Buffet is one of several Indian buffet choice on the Ave.  It's located mid-block between NE 45th and NE 47th Streets on the west side of the street.  The lunch buffet will run you $8.99 plus tax, chai is not included.  The food is Pakistani-Indian, a richer blend than some with lots of creamy dishes.  A good portion of naan (Indian flat bread) is included in the price.

It's assumed that you will be having the buffet, so much make yourself at home, take a plate, load up, and have a seat.  Soon someone will be over to fill your water glass and take your naan order - plain or garlic.  The atmosphere is relaxed and congenial.  Many diners are eating alone, so don't worry if you aren't accompanied, no one will notice or care.

There is a wide variety of vegetarian and meat options which they keep somewhat segregated from each other.  In addition there are salads and dessert.

Dessert is amazing.  I'm a real fan of Indian rice pudding spiced with cardamon and was not disappointed.

Aloo Gobi, Dal Bhukara, Channa Masala, Vegetable Korma, Chuli Chicken, Goat Chetinad, Chicken Tandoori, Chichen Tika Masala, Coconut Rick, and Basmati Rice were the hot dishes on board the last time I visited.

  1. Garam Masala seems to no longer have the lunch buffet. Their food is good. Give them a try.
